About the event

Abstract:

Achieving Full Compaction – Civil and geotechnical engineers have been providing the same recommendations for site specific compaction for almost a century. As the technology and compaction equipment have evolved, the geotechnical industry has made very few changes with respect to compaction recommendations and standards. But in Texas, subgrade improvements have evolved over the past several decades to address highly expansive soils. As a result, many of these new techniques have had unexpected consequences in moisture-density relationships, thereby directly impacting subgrade compaction performance. This presentation covers the history and evolution of soil compaction, how the industry addresses expansive soils, and the importance of full compaction in both design and construction controls.
